Important Instructions After Removable Dental Prosthetics

Adapting to Your Prosthesis

• Experiencing initial fullness, awkwardness, or slight excess salivation is completely normal when wearing a new denture.

• It usually takes a few days to several weeks for mouth muscles and gums to fully adapt.

Eating and Chewing

• Start with soft, easy-to-chew foods cut into small bites.

• Chew slowly, distributing food evenly on both sides of the mouth to keep the denture balanced.

• Avoid hard, sticky, or tough foods until you feel completely confident with your prosthesis.

Speaking and Pronunciation

• You may experience slight speech changes initially. Practice reading aloud to adapt quickly to phonetic sounds.

Cleaning and Appliance Care

• Remove and rinse your denture after meals. Brush it daily with a dedicated denture brush and non-abrasive denture cleanser.

• Soak your prosthesis in a specialized denture cleansing solution according to instructions.

• Never use boiling water, as high heat can warp acrylic appliances.

Caring for Your Gums and Mouth

• Brush your gums, tongue, and palate daily with a soft toothbrush to stimulate circulation and remove bacteria.

Wearing Schedule and Nighttime Rest

• In the first 24 hours, you may be instructed to wear the denture continuously to identify pressure spots.

• Afterward, always remove your prosthesis before sleeping to allow oral tissues to rest and breathe.

Follow-Up Visits and Sore Spots

• Minor sore spots can develop as the denture settles. Visit your dentist for routine relief adjustments.

• If severe irritation occurs, consult your dental practitioner promptly.
