Important Instructions After Fixed Dental Prosthetics (Crowns/Bridges)

Waiting to Eat and Drink

• Avoid eating or drinking hot fluids until local anesthesia has completely worn off to prevent accidental tongue or lip biting.

Temporary Sensitivity

• Slight sensitivity to temperature extremes or mild gum tenderness around the margin is normal for a few days.

• If sensitivity lingers or worsens, consult your dentist.

Oral Hygiene and Care

• Brush your teeth thoroughly twice daily with a soft toothbrush and non-abrasive toothpaste.

• Floss carefully around crowns. For dental bridges, use superfloss or bridge threaders to clean underneath the pontic (false tooth) daily.

Avoid Extremely Hard or Sticky Foods

• Do not chew on ice cubes, hard candy, or unpopped popcorn kernels.

• Avoid sticky items like caramel or chewing gum for at least 24 hours after permanent cementation to allow the dental cement to reach maximum strength.

Bite Feel and Comfort

• Your bite should feel natural and balanced. If the crown feels high or hits first when closing your mouth, contact your dentist for a minor occlusion adjustment.

Follow-Up Visits

• Attend scheduled check-up appointments so your dentist can assess prosthetic margins and surrounding gum health.

Periodontal Health

• Maintaining healthy gums around your crown or bridge is crucial for long-term stability and success.

Reporting Any Issues

• If you experience severe throbbing pain, looseness, or a chipped restoration, contact the clinic immediately.
